When buying a container you’ll see two main options: new (one-trip) and used (wind & watertight). Both are secure and weatherproof, but there are important differences in appearance, lifespan and cost. Here’s how to choose.
What is a “one-trip” (new) container?
A one-trip container has made a single journey from the factory (usually carrying cargo), so it’s in near-new condition — clean, structurally excellent and with minimal wear. These are the best choice for conversions, offices, and anywhere appearance matters. They cost more, but they last the longest.
What does “wind & watertight” (used) mean?
A used wind & watertight (WWT) container has been in service but is inspected and certified to be structurally sound, secure and dry. Expect some surface rust, dents and repainting — cosmetic marks that don’t affect performance. WWT units are the budget-friendly choice and are ideal for general storage.
Condition at a glance
- New / one-trip — near-new looks, longest lifespan, best for conversions and visible sites.
- Used / WWT — honest working condition, fully weatherproof, best value for storage.
Every container we sell — new or used — is quality-checked before dispatch, so you always know exactly what you’re getting.
Which should you buy?
If budget is the priority and the container is purely for storage, a used WWT unit is excellent value. If you’re converting the container, keeping it on display, or want maximum longevity, choose a new one-trip.
