What a reefer actually is
A refrigerated container, or reefer, is an insulated steel container with its own cooling plant built into one end. Rather than simply slowing heat transfer the way an insulated box does, it actively holds a set temperature. That is the difference that lets it store and move anything from vaccines to venison without the cold chain breaking.
Much of the value sits in the insulation rather than the machinery. A well-insulated envelope means the compressor cycles less often to hold the same temperature, and less run time means a lower electricity bill and fewer hours on the unit before it needs servicing. Across a year of continuous operation that is usually the largest single line in the running cost.
Getting more out of the space
Internal load bars let you stack pallets in two tiers, so a single reefer holds substantially more without you paying for a second unit or a second machine to power. It is worth specifying at the point of order if your product is light enough and stable enough to stack.
