Buy new once rather than used twice
A new 40ft container costs more on day one and less over a decade. The doors shut properly and go on shutting properly, the seals are not perished, the floor is intact, and it looks like something you are happy to have parked at the front of a yard rather than hidden round the back. When you eventually come to sell it on, it holds its value in a way a used box does not.
These are built from COR-TEN A grade steel. Corten is the alloy that made containers viable outdoors: it forms a dense oxide layer that seals itself instead of flaking away and exposing fresh metal, which is why containers survive decades of North Sea weather with no maintenance regime at all.

The lashing points are worth noting even for static use. They give you fixed anchor points for strapping a load, fitting racking or securing anything that would otherwise shift, without drilling into the panels.
