Temperature stability without a running cost
An insulated container is the sensible middle ground between a plain steel box and a full refrigerated unit. It will not chill anything, so it is not the answer for a cold chain. What it does is stop the interior tracking the outside air, and that solves a surprising number of storage problems on its own.
An uninsulated container in a British summer gets hot enough to warp candles and soften adhesives, then cools overnight and condenses moisture onto everything inside. Insulation flattens that daily swing, which keeps the contents dry and stable. And because there is no plant to run, there is no electricity supply to arrange, no service contract, no compressor hours and no bill.
That combination suits food and fishing bait, furniture, paper goods and print stock, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and electronics, all of which are damaged more often by condensation than by temperature itself.
