Three different things get called an insulated container
This is worth getting right before you spend money, because the wrong choice is expensive and hard to undo.
- A working reefer, which is what this listing is. Factory-installed refrigeration plant that actively holds a set temperature, achieving the coldest temperatures and the lowest humidity of any container option.
- An insulated container, sometimes called a non-working reefer. The same insulated shell and machinery housing, but the plant no longer runs. It buffers temperature swings and costs nothing to operate, but it cannot chill.
- A standard container modified with insulation. A dry box lined after the fact. Useful for taking the edge off summer heat and reducing condensation, but not comparable to a purpose-built reefer envelope.
If your stock has to sit at a specified temperature, only the first of those will do it. If you simply want a store that does not swing from freezing to baking across a day, the other two are cheaper and we stock both.
What a 40ft reefer handles
Food and drink, chemicals, paper goods and anything else that suffers from heat, mould or condensation. These units are straightforward to load, access and handle, which matters when a 40ft cold room is being worked daily rather than filled once and left.
